64. Why is KFI zone OCR/ICR/BCR recognition not working on colour images?
Before zonal recognition, EzeScan DESKTOP applies a default binarisation filter to the Colour zone to convert it to Black and White. In some cases, this default filter may not adequately enhance the lightly coloured text.
It is possible to override this default binarisation filter by using the KFI Field Properties form, Enhancement tab, Tick Binarise - Convert Colours (R,G,B) Start/End/To options.
Before changing these options press the zone TEST button. Look at the zone image after enhancement and you'll see the characters are often light and poor quality,
Now try changing the Convert Colours (R,G,B) Start/End/To options to:
| R | G | B |
START | 1 | 1 | 1 |
END | 240 | 240 | 240 |
TO | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Then press the zone TEST button again. Now look at the zone image after enhancement and you'll see the characters are now darker, and easier to read. The OCR, ICR or BCR result should now be more accurate.
It is possible to just selectively enhance 1 colour (e.g. Red) and dropout the others by binarising only one of the RGB values like this:
| R | G | B |
START | 1 | 0 | 0 |
END | 240 | 0 | 0 |
TO | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Optionally tick Drop-out colours not in this range to white to apply further enhancement which may improve recognition.
